Loganville High School offers up a huge congratulations to seniors Alerriya Butler and Jamar Moore who were recently named Players of the Year by the Walton Tribune. Coach Zorn, Alleriya’s coach, and Coach Grayson, Jamar’s coach, sent in their players statistics for the season to the Walton Tribune committee. These two had the best stats out of all those that were sent to this committee. Jamar tied for the most points per game with 20.1 points per game and was number one in rebounds for the season with an average of 11.5 rebounds per game. His highest points scored in one game was 37 when the team played Chestatee High School. Alerriya scored an average of 11.5 points per game with her highest points scored in one game standing at 22. Coach Zorn received a call from the newspaper and was told the news about two weeks before the article came out about Alerriya and Jamar being named the Players of the Year. Alerriya found out through Twitter; Coach Zorn had posted how proud of her he was, while Jamar was told by Mrs. Arnold. When asked how he felt about one of his players being deemed the Player of the Year, Coach Zorn commented that he “was very proud of Alerriya.” Both Alerriya and Jamar are a part of the All-Star team. The two teams were comprised of Walton County students nominated by their coaches and voted on by the Walton Tribune. Several Loganville High School students, along with other Walton County students, were split into two teams to play against each other. The teams were coached by a few Walton County coaches. The games were Wednesday, March 27th at Social Circle. Though no one could recall the score, Coach Zorn stated that “everyone did really good, and he was very proud.” Both teams did very well considering they had only one practice. Alerriya originally thought of basketball as a sport for boys, but under her uncle’s encouragement, eventually gave it a try in fourth grade and fell in love with it. Her approach to the season was to be a leader and, at her coach's advice, try to make everyone feel involved. Her most memorable game was the Buford game because, even though they lost, she felt her team did extremely well against the Wolves this year. She said that she “feel[s] very happy and blessed” that she was named Player of the Year. Jamar did not start playing till the seventh grade, though he liked the sport long before then. His goal was to score buckets this season, and he was advised by Coach Grayson to go to the gym every day. He scored his thousandth point this year against Monroe and mentioned that he loves to dunk. When asked how he felt after being named the Player of the Year, he replied that he “feel[s] like a celebrity.” One of his friends commented that we were “interviewing the star player.” Once again we would like to congratulate Alerriya Butler and Jamar Moore on their outstanding achievement this year.
